Word has spread about the death of "Working" Kirk Reeves, the man in the stapled white tuxedo and Mickey Mouse hat busking at the westbound on-ramp to the Hawthorne Bridge. Even if people didn't know him by name, he was recognized by nearly everyone who crossed the bridge in rush-hour traffic. Rain or shine, Reeves was there with his cornet and a collection of gimmicks to grab a smile and maybe a waving buck or two.
Reeves struggled on and off with homelessness and health issues, but he was always a smiling, friendly face on the job. Street Roots interviewed Reeves in 2010, and enjoyed a few hours with him at his perch. You can read the complete interview here.
