Directors Desk: Team Street Roots is working on many fronts

By Israel Bayer, Staff Writer

Street Roots has been very busy on the homeless advocacy and policy front as of late.

Street Roots, along with many of our partners are helping lead the, “We are the Safety Net” campaign. The campaign has worked very hard to secure local funding for homeless and housing services.

The campaign worked with people experiencing poverty to tell a broader narrative through social media about obtaining housing and accessing services. At the same time, the coalition worked very hard with local officials to help secure funding.

Invest in Portland from the grassroots up

Experiencing a city like Portland doesn’t just happen by accident. From our creative neighborhoods to our lush urban forests, we are proud of the environment in which we live. We have some of the best music and arts on earth. We are humane and care for one another. We ride bikes and offer random acts of kindness to strangers. We love animals.

Brian, a former Marine Corps corporal who served two deployments in Iraq, had been invited to Reynolds High School in Troutdale, just east of Portland. The school was hosting a Living History Day, a day devoted to recognizing area veterans and inviting them to share their stories with the student body.
