We have less than 24-hours! Let's make it count.
TriMet is proposing raising the fares for Honored Citizen passes from $1 to $1.25.
Honored Citizens are people who are 65 or older or on Medicaid, as well as those experiencing mental or physical disabilities.
Sixty-three percent of Honored Citizens live in poverty.
TriMet estimates it will make $650,000 annually with the fare increase. TriMet’s budget is $504.8 million.
There are a lot of ways to think about trying to capture $650,000 without having to raise fares on senior citizens, the disabled and the poor.
We encourage you to ask TriMet not to raise Honored Citizen fares in our region. You can comment on the fare proposal until Tuesday, May 19, at 5 p.m. via email at comments@trimet.org or by calling 503-238-RIDE (7433). You can also Twitter TriMet @TriMet.
In a time when our region is facing a housing crisis and a lack of living wage jobs — Street Roots thinks TriMet can find another way.
